Quick Cable Cowl

Quick Cable Cowl

Knit the squishiest cowl and learn the art of cabling at the same time. This fast and furious pattern makes for fantastic gift knitting, and you’ll be whipping up cowls for everyone in no time!

This squish-tacular cowl is a great introduction to cables!

Glossary:

K - Knit | P - Purl | CO - Cast On  BO - Bind Off

st(s) - Stitches | PM - Place Marker | Rnd - Round

C6F (6 stitch left leaning cable) - slip 3 stitches onto a DPN or cable needle and hold in the FRONT of your work. Knit the next 3 stitches on your left needle, then knit the 3 stitches off your cable needle.

Cables are formed by knitting your stitches out of order, causing them to twist! Who thinks of these things?!

Size & Gauge:

One size fits all! Gauge is not essential - live on the edge.

Yarns:

  • 1 skein of Cascade Magnum or approximately 100 yards (91 metres) of another super bulky yarn.

(We used approx 200g of Cascade Magnum in the colour "Moss", which is way greener than it looks here.)

Needles n’ Notions:

  •  15mm (US 19) 24 inch (60 cm) circular knitting needle (We like Chiaogoo!)
  • One stitch marker
  • One 10mm (US 15) DPN (to use as a cable needle) OR a large cable needle
  • A darning needle for weaving in ends

Pattern:

CO 56 sts using the long tail cast on method. Join your work in the round, being sure not to twist the stitches. PM on your right needle. Written instructions are provided alongside the chart.

A note about reading charts: When knitting in the round, you start at the bottom right corner of the chart grid and read the chart from RIGHT to LEFT on every row. (Knitting flat is a slightly different process, but we won’t worry about it now.)

To make a pattern repeat, you will repeat a chart line over and over from right to left until the round of knitting is completed. (For this cowl, 7 repeats x 8 stitches wide chart = 56 sts that we cast on.) Finished your round? Then move up one chart line. Sometimes you’ll be asked to repeat rounds of the chart again to complete the pattern.
