Warp Speed Hat
Need a quick hat you can knit up at warp speed? This basic beanie uses one skein of your favourite worsted weight yarn and is a great intro to knitting in the round. It’s so quick you can make one for everyone you love! Hats for all!
Pom poms optional but highly encouraged.

Size & Gauge:
One size fits most adults.
17 sts x 26 rows = 10cm x 10cm (4” x 4”)
Yarns:
- 1 skein of Malabrigo Rios or Manos Alegria Grande or approximately 183 metres (200 yards) of your favourite worsted weight yarn. Our sample used approximately 137 yards (150 metres.)
Needles n’ Notions:
- 4.5mm (US 7) 40cm (16”) circular needles (We like Chiaogoo or Lykke)
- 1 set of 4.5mm (US 7) DPNs (for shaping the crown)
- 1 stitch marker
- A darning needle for weaving in ends
Let’s Start Knitting!
CO 96 sts using the long tail cast on method. Join your work in the round, being sure not to twist the stitches. PM on your right needle.
Rounds 1-16 or until piece measures approx 7cm (2.5”): Work in *K2, P2* ribbing (repeating from * to *) around.
For a classic beanie: Work in stockinette stitch (knitting every stitch - no more purling!) until your work measures 18cm (7”) from the cast on edge (this measurement includes your ribbing.)
For a slouchier beanie: work in stockinette stitch until your work reaches approximately 9cm (3.5”) from your desired length. Heads up that making your beanie longer, will use extra yarn so make sure you’ve got a backup skein, or live on the edge. We’re not the boss of you.
Time to Decrease!
This hat has a 6 point decrease at the crown, so you’ll want to switch to your double pointed needles when the decrease becomes too awkward to do on your circulars.
Peep that pretty decrease:

Do not cast off. Cut yarn leaving a 20cm (8”) tail, and cinch the top of your hat tightly by threading the tail through all the stitches and pulling. Weave in your ends, you did it!
Give yourself a high five because you’ve just finished The Warp Speed Hat!
